“That’s a hell of a grabber, Chris.”

Abbey watched the pieing of Gordon Shumway on YouTube for the tenth time, and it still made her laugh. Chris had taken several news clips, including other greatest hits like the shoe attack on George Bush and Bill Gates getting a cake in the face and turned them into a dance video, played to a remix of Pat Benetar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”

“They say any publicity is good publicity,” Chris said over the speakers.

Abbey smirked. “Depends on what you’re publicizing.” Despite the time difference, Chris always seemed to be online whenever Abbey was home. “Thanks for putting this together. I’m not much of a video editor.”

“It’s easier to point and click than hold a pencil. When do you want it to go viral?”

“Now is good.”

“You got it. I got a network. This’ll be on more Facebook and Twitter pages than you can imagine.”

“Can you edit it later so it links to another video?”

“Sure. I can add text, links, whatever you need. What are you planning on?”

The truth was, Abbey wasn’t sure. “For now, just get people’s attention. I’m still working out the details.”

“Well, whatever you have planned, I got your back,” said Chris. “He messed with my boy. Revenge was inevitable.”

That’s probably what Gordon’s thinking. “You realize Finn’s the one who escalated things.”

“Not in my books. Alf’s the one who started making threats.”

“Who’s Alf?”

“Didn’t Finn tell you? He used to watch the show all the time.”

“What are you talking about?”

“ALF. You know, on TV? Alien puppet? Nose like a penis? Lived with suburban family? Eats cats?”

Abbey knew the show but barely remembered it.

“I don’t get it.”

“Alf’s real name was Gordon Shumway.”

“You’re kidding.”

“Nope. You know, when I first met Finn, he was wearing an Alf shirt.”

“Um, how romantic?” The messenger program beeped. Leia was online. Abbey set her status to invisible. She had enough to deal with right now.

“Well, I thought it was cute. He never pretended to be something he wasn’t. Is he back yet?”

“I think he’s in his room painting,” said Abbey.

“Is he filled up on art fuel?”

“Art fuel?”

“His pet name for beer.”

“I don’t think so. Wait, is that why his pupils are dilated all the time?”

Kane padded into the room and rubbed against Abbey’s leg.

“No, they’re always like that,” said Chris. “Natural condition. Weird, huh?”

She thought about Gordon’s third pupil. “I’ve seen weirder. Finn can’t be drinking that much. I’ve only ever seen a couple of beers in the fridge, and the trash isn’t full of cans.”

“I guess something good came from his dad cutting him off.”

“Cutting him off from what?”

“His family is loaded, you know. They were paying his way.”

Abbey smirked. “He had an allowance? How cute!”

“They were just thrilled he stopped bumming around with a slacker like me, even if it was for art college.”

“Let me guess, doctor aspirations?”

“Well, something legitimate and normal, at least.”

Abbey nodded. God knew her mom was like that. “Why here? Why not back in the States?”

“Oh, lots of reasons. He was already there, it was easy to see the rest of Europe, and, well, he just didn’t want to come back.
